I’m not sure what it is that attracts me to notebooks and planners like a moth to a light. I think it’s the desire to be organized, despite my lack of organizational skills or ambitions. I have always been a planner gal. I loved when we got them in school. I loved going through my classes and setting them up, I loved writing down my “daily schedule”, I loved the tidiness of the straight rows and boxes perfect for planning your life out in an orderly and functional fashion. I love the idea of a planner, even if I’m not always the most efficient planner user.
I guess my biggest drawback with planners has always been that they’re only planners. Most of them have a little “notes” section in the back, but unless your notes are in tiny handwriting and only take up 2 pages it’s a pretty pointless space. I’m an idea person, I have tons of ideas that I like to write down on a page or two. I have notebooks all over the house with scribbled pages of ideas and sometimes I forget where I’ve hidden them and Jake finds them and reads them (which by the way, is my biggest pet peeve).
Not too long ago I took up bullet journaling, which I liked a lot. The drawback for me was that I have sloppy handwriting and can’t draw cutesy things. I needed something simpler, something more straightforward. Then I blessedly found the BASICS notebook and my heart started to sing. It’s easy and effective, but it also wears several different hats. It’s a notebook for planning, but it’s also got sheets of lined paper, sheets of unlined paper, a folder in the back, heavy duty straps to hold everything in place, and even a “whiteboard” type page that writes on with dry erase markers and can be erased. It’s the best and easiest planner, I’m not kidding.
But don’t just take my word, let me show you just what makes this notebook the epitome of organization and goal-meeting.
In all seriousness, this might just be the best thing I’ve ever come across. It’s a notebook specifically designed for functionality and getting things done. It’s not particularly trendy looking or fancy, but as I’ve carried it around with me for the last few weeks I’ve noticed how much more productive it makes me feel (even if I’m not always at the level I’d like to be).
I hope you all had a beautiful and blessed weekend! Happy planning!
